Happy Summer Holidays! xx
Just a quick sorry that I haven’t been putting photos here for a while. The pirates at Edublogs say I have used all the space and they want me to pay to keep going, or delete some old stuff. So as soon as I sort that out I’ll get more photos on. Thanks to Iona for the message, I look forward to reading your story when it’s finished! Miss you all!
Methlick School have had an ECO Day. You can see pictures here.
Looks like it was a lot of fun, but I can see it was cold outside. You’re all wrapped up!
Recycling was badly affected here when they had Hurricane Ivan a few years ago. Trash is a big problem, it’s all buried in the middle of the island. People call the dump – Mount Trashmore. It’s the highest point on the whole island! We have started to recycle cans, but there is a lot more to do before we become ECO friendly like you in Scotland.
Well done Methlick!
P.S. What kind of owl is that? It’s gorgeous!

I have been to Havana, the capital city of Cuba for a few days holiday. It is a very interesting place because in its history it has been a port for swashbuckling pirates, a slave trading port, and even a gambling den for American gangsters. It was once full of magnificent buildings, but in 1959 it became a communist country and so many of the buildings have been left to crumble and the cars are the same ones that were there 50 years ago. It’s a bit like going back in time! Here are some photos.

This is MaryGrace and she is a member of Red Bay Primary Brownies. Most Brownie packs here are held after school in a classroom. MaryGrace is in the Sprites Six and she is working on her art badge. I thought you would like to see her uniform. It’s like yours, but no trousers! There is a yellow T Shirt and a brown skirt, socks and shoes. The cravat has turtles on it and says Cayman Islands on the back. MaryGrace says to tell you they go on trips to exciting places. Last year they went to Orlando and saw animals in the zoo, theme parks and museums!
I know you are all feeling sad at the moment and I want you to know I am feeling very sad too. Alice was such a very special lady and she loved each and everyone of you very much. We are so lucky that we knew her, that she was in our school and that she cared so much about us. I will always remember her in my classroom after you all had gone home and also on the trip to York in 2007. She always made me laugh and made me feel better if I was sad. Just like she did for you. Write and tell me all the happy memories you have, it’ll make us all smile again. Alice would want us to smile.
Hey Methlick people! Just want to tell you how lucky you are, because the children here are about to have a whole week of exams. Everyone from P1 has to sit exam papers in English, Maths, Science, Social Studies and R.M.E. next week. Phew!
Happy 2009 everyone! We are all back at school. I feel like I’ve had a summer holiday again, because it is so nice and sunny and warm here. Andrew and Philip came to visit me and we had a lovely time together. On Christmas morning we went to the beach in our swimsuits and santa hats! At New Year we celebrated twice – once for Scotland and once for Cayman because the clocks are 5 hours behind here. The boys have gone back to Scotland so it’s back to school and back to normal now! New Year hugs and kisses to you all from The Cayman Islands.

Thanks SO much to Iona for sending us these pictures of her snowman. She built him in her garden in Ythanbank near Methlick. I wonder what book he is reading? She also sent a picture of Snuggles her pet rabbit enjoying Christmas. Children here keep rabbits as pets too. They also have cats, dogs, hamsters, rabbits, fish and iguanas.

My class are very jealous of the snow you’ve been having – I showed them some photos. I’ve been telling them how you build a snowman. They were amazed. They were confused because they have never seen coal – they have no fires in their houses, but they have seen charcoal for the barbeque!
They are just as excited as you about Christmas and already everywhere is lit up with beautiful twinkly lights. Here we sing songs such as ‘Frosty the Sandman’, ‘Dashing through the sand’ and ‘Santa got a Sunburn’! But all the same carols as you, ‘Away in a Manger’, ‘Silent Night’ etc. though with different tunes. I’m finding it rather hard to believe it is December, because the sun keeps shining day after day. Hope you like my new Christmas ornaments!
Click here The Selkirk Grace has become the children’s favourite prayer before lunch. I thought you might like to hear it. Good luck with Snow White everyone! Our school is doing Cindy, the Cayman Cinderella and I’m looking forward to seeing it. Hopefully Mrs Webster will send me a copy of your Snow White DVD next year.
